Grouplove Raises More Than $40,000 for Clean Water Nonprofit

L.A.-based indie-rock band Grouplove have raised more than $40,000 for charity: water, a nonprofit organization that brings clean water to people in developing nations. They raised the money by donating one dollar from each ticket sold for their Big Mess World Tour last fall. If you attended one of the shows from the tour, then you have helped bring fresh water to more than 1,300 people.

In a statement, Grouplove said, “This is incredible and we are so thankful to all of you who came out to our shows and were part of this. We ask that you continue to support charity: water in their efforts to solve the crisis of 663 million people living without access to clean water.” A celebrity favorite, charity: water prides themselves on transparency, working to show donors exactly where their money goes through photos and videos. Founder and CEO Scott Harrison, a former nightclub promoter turned devout Christian, is known for throwing lavish parties where the proceeds go to charity: water, as well as for beginning a new, social-media driven way of donating. In other words, Harrison learned how to apply branding to charity in the 21st century.

Transparency is particularly important to the organization, and they try to show their failures as well as their successes. Over the next six months, Grouplove will be able to provide fans with details on which countries and areas are specifically benefiting from the donation, along with photos and progress reports over the next few years. You can follow the progress and learn more about the charity: water here, and you can also check Grouplove’s social media outlets for updates.
