In the last few weeks, New Zealand pop artist Lorde debuted two long-awaited singles off her forthcoming album Melodrama. On Saturday, we got to see her perform the tracks live as the musical guest on SNL, as she made her solo performance debut on the show. First, the sparkle shirt-clad artist performed an energetic rendition of Green Light beneath red lights, perhaps indicating that the “green light” she waits for is never going to come … or maybe the red lights just looked cool. Watch the clip above to see Lorde sing the fiery break-up ballad while intermittently clawing the air in her patented spastic dance style.
Later in the night, Lorde returned to sing her most recent track Liability, which you can watch below. Slow and more emotional, she sang the mournful song in a strong fashion statement that must be influenced by this anonymous German artist’s Portrait of a Woman from 1480.
Melodrama is out June 16 via LAVA/Republic Records, and is currently available for preorder.
