After the announcement of Alien: Covenant, many were concerned that it would be an overly heady property in the vein of Prometheus. And then we saw the trailer, which is absolutely bonkers. Sure, no one has seen the film itself yet, but it’s already a promising venture, and there’s seemingly going to be no end. While we eagerly await the release of Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott says he already has the next installment written, waiting like a dormant chest-burster.
The 79-year-old Scott recently told The Sydney Morning Herald, “You’ve got to assume to a certain extent success and from that you’d better be ready. You don’t want a two-year gap. So I’ll be ready to go again next year.” Which is to say, Scott is confident that audiences will love his next film, and is ready to capitalize on said success in the form of four (!) more films. And Scott went even further, saying, “If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six. I’m not going to close it down again. No way.” So if you’re in the mood for a franchise, fine, Scott will do it. But don’t say he never did anything for you.
Alien: Covenant will come creeping into theaters on May 19. Check out the latest horrifying trailer here and a calmer, yet still tense, prologue here.
