Last year, Adrian Galvin released his first solo EP, Far Shore, under the moniker Yoke Lore. Since then, the EP received raving reviews, has over 3 million plays on Spotify, and songs from the release were even featured in MTV’s The Real World and Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet. Now the Brooklyn based artist, formerly of Yellerkin and Walk The Moon, is back with the first taste from his sophomore EP (to be released later this year). Yoke Lore’s newest single, “World Wings,” can be streamed in the player above.
A track about feeling responsibility and to keep going when things seem hopeless, “World Wings” is the perfect introduction to the next steps in Galvin’s career. He shares with us how important the single is for him as an artist, saying, “I wrote it at a time when I was getting more recognition and people were listening to what I was saying and singing. It was the first time that my words mattered and the first time I realized I was affecting people through my songs.” He continues, “I couldn't just use songwriting as a place for emotional self-indulgence when there were people who were listening to find something. I needed to start saying something worthwhile and useful, something that people could take and make their own. This song, in a way, tracks that realization in myself. I hope this song can help ignite a fire in the people who are listening.”
Born into an artistic family, his mother a director and his father an actor and sculptor, Galvin was immersed into a world of creativity. He dabbled in painting, photography, and ballet before finding his passion in music. So where does the moniker Yoke Lore came from? “A ‘yoke’ is something that holds things together. ‘Lore’ means a set of stories or a collection of ideas about an event, time, or culture,” explains Galvin. “I want to tell stories about how things are bound and held together. I think something’s value is in its relationship to everything else. Work in the joints; where things come together.”
In addition to an album in the making, fans will also be excited to hear that Yoke Lore will be making his SXSW debut this year. For more information, head on over to www.yokelore.com.
