George Winston has been tickling the keys for more than four decades, setting a high bar for every pianist in genres as diverse as rural folk piano, stride piano, and New Orleans R&B piano. For his latest record, Spring Carousel, Winston composed 15 original pieces while recuperating from a bone-marrow transplant for Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) at City of Hope, a cancer treatment center in Duarte, Calif.
Having made a full recovery, Winston is back on the road with his innovative style of plucking, muting, and hammering the piano strings. He also plays a pretty mean harmonica, and treated Paste to a multipart ditty with just his one mouth. Check it out.
