Could we really blame a band like Thursday for calling it quits six years ago, arguably at their creative apex? After 14 years of larynx-shredding howls and time-signature malting odes of fury and loss, Geoff Rickly and company deserved a break to replenish. The New Jersey natives reunited for the emo nirvana that was 2016’s Wrecking Ball Festival, later announcing a two-month tour with Touché Amoré, Basement, Wax Idols and Cities Aviv. Paste photographer Reva May captured the batshit energetic show at Detroit’s Saint Andrew’s Hall on Tuesday, along with some portraits of the hardcore pioneers. Thursday is playing a handful of New York shows in the remainder of April before starting the second leg of their tour in June.
