So whatever: Kendrick Lamar didn’t release another album two days after the mic-drop epiphany that is DAMN, but he did put on one hell of a headlining performance to close out Coachella’s first weekend. The modern hip-hop icon opened with the Fox News bit whose samples are laced through the album before working through the majority of the LP, including tracks “DNA.” “ELEMENT.” “XXX.” and “GOD.” Lorde also used the event to introduce new music, though sophomore album Melodrama doesn’t release till mid June. Describing the record as a reflection of the “ups and downs of being a 20-something,” she debuted the bouncy, R&B-tinged “Homemade Dynamite” and piano-driven “Melodrama.”
Paste photographer Amy Harris caught both Lorde and Lamar in our Coachella Day 3 gallery above, which also includes Tove Lo, Whitney and DJ Khaled.
