So Coachella 2017 may have stumbled at square one by refusing to consider alt-pop goddess Kate Bush for the mammoth music festival. But damn if the stars didn’t align in perfect asymmetry last night as headliners Radiohead took the stage. According to The Hollywood Reporter and other sources, the sound began to sputter on track “In Rainbows” before completely disappearing for the last two minutes of “15 Step,” prompting the band to exit the stage. Then, in what may be the apex of life mirroring art mirroring life, the group emerged to play the OK Computer buzzkill anthem “Let Down” only for the sound to cut again, forcing a second departure and leaving many fans feeling like bugs crushed in the ground. We can’t make this up. The quintet eventually came back, with lead singer Thom Yorke remarking, “I’d like to tell a joke to lighten the mood. But we’re Radiohead so fuck it,” before breezing through the rest of their set without any more difficulties.
The preceding day was far less tenuous, with a nice blend of hip-hop, indie and EDM laced throughout the day.
