President Donald Trump watches a lot of Fox News. He tweets out glowing reviews of Fox “exposés.” He incorrectly repurposes stats about Gitmo detainee releases. He offers comments about non-existent Swedish terrorist attacks that he heard on the network. And he goes out of his way to defend currently embattled host Bill O’Reilly.
That last point, about President Trump sticking up for the O’Reilly Factor host after new sexual harassment allegations and settlements emerged over the weekend, is a central point in Seth Meyers’ latest “Closer Look.”
Meyers breakdowns the symbiotic relationship between President Trump and the network to the point that even Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy can only marvel like a stoned teenager. There’s a lot to unpack, frankly, but Meyers gets to most of the highlights: Advertisers pulling spots from the O’Reilly Factor, O’Reilly menacing CBS hosts on-air, the Fox and Friends crew yucking it up during a February White House tour. President Trump was aided by Fox during the 2016 election, so it makes all the sense in the world that he would continue to support the network now that he’s actually in office.
