Need some excitement for your Friday? St. Louis indie punk band Choir Vandals have you covered. Today the band is excited to announce their debut full-length album Dark Glow in addition to their signing to Animal Style Records. With twelve bright tracks, Dark Glow (out July 14th) explores the subject of love while showcasing the band’s musical growth and maturity. “Dark Glow is the result of eighteen months of writing, revising, and more writing,” shares singer/vocalist Austin McCutchen. From the album comes lead single “Holiday Girls” and today fans can check out the music video, exclusively here on Paste.
McCutchen shares with us where the concept of “Holiday Girls” came from. “Holiday Girls is about a group of friends who I got really close to in high school. They had their own way of having fun, which contrasted the typical parties with drugs and alcohol. On the weekends, we would go into my friend's basement where we would dance to music and express ourselves in ways that everyone else would find strange,” he explains. “That group of girls taught me a lot about being comfortable with myself and embracing my differences. They showed me that it's okay to not be normal.” Check out the video in the player above.
The band is set to release their new album Dark Glow this July, which was produced by Tate Mercer (Daisyhead, Better Off) and mastered by Doug Van Sloun (Bright Eyes, Cursive, Tokyo Police Club). “Releasing this record is like the feeling you get when you finally exhale after seeing how long you can hold you breath and all the air in your lungs comes rushing out. It's such a great release of pressure,” McCutchen shares. “Love may be a bright sound, but Dark Glow reminds us to listen to what it’s really saying—to not be distracted by mere beauty, to heed its obvious advice.”
