On April 29th, Natalie Prass dropped the Instagram bombshell that she had wrapped recording on her sophomore album, but that it would be “a minute” before its release. For Ms. Prass, we have a minute. Her 2015 debut—one of our top ten albums of the year —offers a lush concoction of soul, pop and light jazz, strung through rich horn arrangements and instrumentation. Prass’ voice remains forefront, clear and warm as it careens around narratives of dysfunctional love and optimistic futures. As we patiently await to see how bright those futures may be, Prass is playing select summer dates with The Head and the Heart and The New Pornographers. Photographer Julia Drummond spent some downtime and soundcheck with the singer/songwriter during her stop at Brooklyn Steel last week, seen in the gallery above.
