The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s glorious seven days of grooving rhythm and swing may have ended last week, but Paste has one final punctuation mark for what can only be called the most eclectic and downright joyous musical celebration of the year. In addition to the festival proper at the Fair Grounds Race Course, the event puts on a series of after-hours shows unconstrained by formal set times and often set in sweaty, kinetic spaces, just as God intended. Photographer Adam McCullough caught The Preservation Hall Jazz Band jam out with Dawes, Karl Denson and Brady Blade in the final Midnight Preserves session, taking place at the titular Preservation Hall. Check out the antics in the gallery above. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band is currently on tour throughout the west US while Dawes is taking the country by storm through October.
