Look, all we’re saying is that this wry bit of self-deprecating humor deserved a bigger laugh than it got. Skip to the 5:10 mark, as Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) begins to ask Comey about the Clinton email investigation:
Here’s the transcript of that section:
Cornyn: Given the experience of the Clinton email investigation and what happened there, do you think it’s unreasonable for anyone, any president, who has been assured on multiple occasions that he’s not the subject of an FBI investigation, do you think it’s unreasonable for him to wan tthe FBI director to publicly announce that so this cloud over his administration would be removed?
Comey: I think that’s a reasonable point of view. The concern would be obviously, because if that boomerang comes back it will be a very big deal, because there would be a duty to correct.
Cornyn: Well we saw that in the Clinton email investigation.
Comey: Yes, I recall that.
Come on! That’s a classic deadpan! Really tough crowd in the Senate today. To conclude, here’s Comey’s face after he delivered the line…what pain! What pathos!
