For its 2017 iteration, Tennessee’s annual musical festival has nicely balanced mass crowd pleasers with small-title and mid-size bands, satisfying all degree of music obsessive. Friday’s lineup confirmed that contrast, with headliners U2 celebrating the 20th anniversary of their breakout album The Joshua Tree. Even if Bono and the Edge didn’t punctuate the evening with a tidal wave of echoing guitar riffs, the schedule offered more than enough incentive to camp out in the deep south hideaway. Paste favorites Jay Som, Glass Animals, D.R.A.M., Portugal. The Man, Springtime Carnivore and The xx kept us on a tight itinerary as we hopped from show to show. Photographer Sarah Hess captured the fun in the gallery above. Check out our photo coverage from Bonnaroo day one and come back Sunday and Monday for more imagery from the festival.
