Smashing Pumpkins fans, take note: drummer Jimmy Chamberlin says there’s hope for a reunion. In an interview with WGN Radio, Chamberlin alluded to a possible reunion of the original lineup next year.
“We were talking about playing next year with the band and somebody asked me, you, know, ‘What’s it like trying to coordinate that?’” said Chamberlin. “I said it’s like ‘Grumpy Old Men 3,’ only there’s four grumpy old men and one’s a woman. So, that’s how it’s gotten to be.”
The comment comes after Billy Corgan hinted at a potential reunion earlier this year. As Musicfeeds points out, a reunion performance would be the first time the original lineup had played together since 1999. To put that into perspective, Bill Clinton was president and Destiny’s Child was just starting to take off.
As Corgan said to Chicago’s 97.9 The Loop, “There’s a willingness for us to play, but also the world’s changed a lot since we didn’t play. So the reunion thing is always a bit weird because people come in with their expectations.”
If there is a Smashing Pumpkins reunion, everyone be as supportive as you can, because we want it to last as long as possible. Check out a vintage Billy Corgan interview from the Paste vault below.
