13-year-old singer-songwriter Grace VanderWaal has shared the music video for her infectious single “Moonlight.” The song is from her forthcoming debut album, which is due out later this year. The Blythe Thomas-directed video features a concept conceived by VanderWaal herself and was filmed in Williamsburg in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“I had so much fun making my very first music video,” VanderWaal said. “I really wanted a visual aspect to show the story behind the song which is about having a friend go through depression and seeing them change as a result of it.”
“You guys were really supportive about the song and I’m so thankful for that,” VanderWaal continued. “A lot of people go through depression so if you know someone who is, please try to reach out for them and let them know that you’re there for them. The song is like a walk down memory lane and remembering just last year when everything was so magical that it almost felt like you were dancing in the moonlight.”
The video has cameos from VanderWaal’s friends as well as her sister. The singer is also set to take part in Dosomething.org’s “Treat Yo Friends” campaign, which is about the celebration of friendship and the fight against social isolation.
