Primus Announce First New Album with Classic Lineup in Over 20 Years

Oddball rockers Primus have announced their first album of new material with their original members since 1995’s Tales From The Punchbowl.

The forthcoming The Desaturating Seven is out on Sept. 29. The inspiration for the band’s ninth studio album comes from the ‘70s children book The Rainbow Goblins by Ul De Rico, in which seven goblins pull all of the color out of the world. Vocalist and bassist Les Claypool said he was struck by the book’s dark imagery and beauty.

“The use of color and darkness both in the paintings and the writing was compelling and now, near two decades later, the metaphor of greed, gluttony and deceit vs unity of the masses is eerily relevant,” said Claypool. “I brought the notion to the Primus guys and they were all for it. Plus, I figured it’s about time someone brought ‘Goblin Rock’ back to the fold.”

The announcement comes with the release of lead single “The Seven” and a string of fall tour dates in support of the album, following their current summer tour with Clutch.
