Psy's "Gangnam Style" Has Been Dethroned As YouTube's Most-Watched Clip

There’s been a changing of the guard. For the past half-decade, Psy’s “Gangnam Style” music video has been the most watching anything on YouTube. It was the first video to reach one billion views, and it’s currently within spitting distance of a mind-melting three billion views. Some of you may be nervously shifting in your computer chairs realizing you may have personally contributed a couple thousand of those views, but, relax, we’ve all been there. But now, “Gangnam Style” has been usurped by Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” featuring Charlie Puth.

Khalifa and Puth wrote the sob-inducing ballad for the film Furious 7 as a tribute to the late Paul Walker. And while it’s definitely a decent song—and has the added power of being both timely and incredibly sad—it’s still rather surprising that people have flocked in such great numbers to YouTube to watch the music video.

Charlie Puth is understandably very pumped.

As an interesting side note, the “Gangnam Style” video’s crashing of YouTube led many to predict the collapse of modern civilization by 2038. If we survive past that, it may very well be because of a video where a Korean man repeatedly yells, “Hey sexy lady.”

Here’s hoping the next great YouTube video cures nearsightedness or something.

If you feel so inclined, you can contribute to the already-staggering “See You Again” view total—over 2.89 billion, as of this writing—below.
