Pennsylvania natives The Districts seemed to have apparated from a classic rock parallel dimension, four musicians whose veteran chemistry and analogue chops root a band that sounds like it’s been touring endlessly for decades. The group hit its stride early in 2009 while still in high school, and has evolved nicely through three EPs and as many long-plays, culminating with Popular Manipulations released earlier this month. The album builds in scope on cliff-drop dynamics, with standout tracks “If Before I Wake” and “Salt” embracing a grandiosity always hinted at but now fully realized. Paste has both experienced that bombast live at its NYC studio as well as last week at the group’s sold-out Bowery Ballroom show. Photographer Sarah Midkiff spent the day with the group and shot their riveting show, as seen in the gallery above. The Districts are touring in Europe and the US through late October.
