St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark, released her first new song in two years earlier this summer, and as of this morning, “New York” now has a dazzling video to match.
As you might imagine, the visual strives to explore “New York” the city, as seen through the lens that is “New York” the song. “I think Annie’s New York is the New York of my dreams—one that is blurry and fractured, dreamy and flat,” said director Alex Da Corte. “It is the Toontown to my Hollywood. It is beautiful but slightly out of reach.” Clark recently discussed “New York” on an episode of Song Exploder, describing it as “my whole life in a song.”
Earlier this month, Clark performed another new song called “LA,” and she has revealed a handful of track titles including “Sugarboy,” “Pills” and Smoking Section.” There’s still no official word as to when we can expect a new St. Vincent album, but surely Clark has plenty more dreamlike places to take us.
Clark has also added a new show to her recently announced Fear the Future Tour, set for Oct. 7 on Paramount Pictures Studios’ New York street set in Los Angeles, as part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival. See the rest of her tour dates here.
