Folk singer-songwriter Cobi made waves when he put out “Don’t You Cry For Me” last year, garnering popularity on Spotify and landing him a slot in a few major festivals over the summer. Now he’s gearing up for the debut of his EP Songs From the Ashes Pt. 1 on Sept. 15, and has shared a song from the album ahead of its release, which you can listen to exclusively here at Paste.
In “Nobody Opened the Door,” Cobi’s expansive voice makes you feel all the feels. He starts the track off modestly and poignantly, backing up his soulful croon with stripped-down guitar strums. The song builds and builds until it bursts—the powerful emotion from his voice is matched with pounding drums and electric guitar riffs.
Cobi opened up about the song to Paste, explaining that it “is about a love that you are eventually forced to let go of. Despite your best efforts, the winds pull you apart and you’re forced to go down your own path. As you go though your journey, you remember the pain that love left you with, but you also realize that you wouldn’t be who you are without it.”
