HBO Will Film Multiple Game of Thrones Endings to Prevent Leaks

HBO has been absolutely bedeviled by leaks of late, and unsurprisingly, the makers of Game of Thrones are taking no chances with the show’s forthcoming series finale. HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed during a talk at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., that the Game of Thrones finale will be thoroughly leak-proofed.

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” said Bloys (per The Morning Call). “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

Although Game of Thrones, which recently wrapped its penultimate seventh season, isn’t on track to return for season eight until September 2018 at the earliest, it makes all the sense in the world that Bloys and company are looking ahead to protecting their flagship show’s grand finale. With an event series like Game of Thrones, spoilers are worth their weight in dragonglass.

That said, multiple season seven episode leaks did little to damper viewer enthusiasm: The show’s latest season broke viewing records left and right, averaging a whopping 30.6 million viewers per episode across platforms. So chances are, however Game of Thrones ends, HBO will be satisfied. Leaks or no leaks, the people need to see the Night King get what’s coming to him.

We (and for that matter, the cast of Game of Thrones) can look forward to seeing how Game of Thrones actually ends in 2018 … hopefully. In the meantime, have a laugh at Paste’s now woefully outdated predictions here.
