The delivery of the harrowing dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale was such a success that Hulu announced the renewal of the show for a second season before the first season had even ended. Now, fans are getting a TV show adaptation of another one of Margaret Atwood’s novels, this time from Netflix: Alias Grace.

Sarah Gadon stars in the six-episode miniseries centering on an Irish immigrant named Grace Marks, who is a maid working in Canada circa 1843. She is convicted of murdering her employer and his housekeeper, but here’s the kicker: she doesn’t know whether she’s guilty, claiming her amnesia prevents her from recounting the incident.

In the trailer, Grace narrates, “When there’s a crime, people want a guilty person. Rightly or wrongly does not matter.”

The series, written and produced by Sarah Polley and directed by Mary Harron, combines the elements of a psychological thriller with the ingredients that make up a historical murder mystery. It premieres on Netflix Nov. 3. Watch the official trailer above.
