Buoyed by last year’s excellent Shape Shift with Me, punk institution Against Me! has remained one of the most relevant and cathartic bands the medium can call its own. Lead woman Laura Jane Grace has assumed an integral voice in trans equality, capturing her transition in the 2012 LP Transgender Dysphoria Blues as well as through a fearless memoir, Tranny. But it’s hard not to view the stage as the most direct channel to the group’s power-chord epiphanies and socio-political protest, their live shows embracing a righteous indignation rarely witnessed outside of prime Fugazi and Black Flag runs. The band is currently in the midst of a labyrinthine tour throughout the United States (when are they not?), and photographer Erica Lauren captured the fury in the gallery above. Openers Bleached and The Dirty Nil set the tone with melodic, overdriven sets.
