While the first Star Wars: Battlefront from DICE and EA may not have had enough content for fans, the forthcoming sequel is looking to more than make up for it. And the shooter has none other than Star Wars star John Boyega to take fans through a (star) tour of the game’s vast amount of content.
Three seems to be a key number here, with three eras of Star Wars represented (as opposed to the first game’s focus on the Original Trilogy), and Boyega boasts that the numbers of locations, heroes and vehicles are roughly three times larger than they were in the first game. Familiar locations like Mos Eisley, Kamino and Takodana are represented here, and even new planets not seen in the films like Fondor and Ryloth appear as locations.
More like DICE’s Battlefield series and Pandemic’s old Battlefront games, this Battlefront utilizes class-based gameplay, classes being Assault, Heavy, Specialist and Officer. Heroes from all three eras like Darth Maul, Boba Fett and Rey What’s-Her-Last-Name are playable, all with unique abilities. And like infantry ground troops, starships, too, will have different classes.
Star Cards gave players of the original EA Battlefront game abilities, and the system returns with the ability to craft Star Cards or obtain more through loot boxes. The five game modes included in the initial game are the dogfighting-focused Starfighter Assault, 20v20 Galactic Assault, team deathmatch Blast, objective-based Strike, and Heroes vs. Villains. Arcade mode will allow solo or co-op offline play, with possible awards for players.
Finally, the single-player campaign tells an “untold story” that bridges Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, with players in the shoes of Imperial special forces soldier Iden Versio and encountering some classic Star Wars characters on the way. Star Wars: Battlefront II will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 17. Those who preorder the game can access it three days early, with a beta opening up to them on Oct. 4 and to the public on Oct. 6.
