New on Netflix: All the Movies and TV Coming in November

As we move from the spookiest month of the year into a time of food, family, food, football, food, additional food, spontaneous naps while sitting up, and dessert, let’s all take a minute to pore over the many movies and TV shows that we’ll be able to binge-watch alongside all of our Thanksgiving binge-eating. We all need something to stare at while we ride out those Turkey Day food comas, so here’s everything November has in store on the big red streaming service.

Leading the way are a pair of much-anticipated Netflix originals, one of which is making a triumphant return, while the other is making its debut. On Nov. 10 comes season two of Maria Bamford’s Lady Dynamite, a strange and stellar sitcom—one of the best on Netflix, if you ask us—with “occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by the actor/comedian’s life, [that] tell the story of a woman who loses—and then finds—her shit,” per Netflix’s synopsis. On the other hand is Marvel’s The Punisher, which promises to be a decidedly more dark, gritty and action-packed experience, set to stream on Nov. 17 after much mystery having shrouded its arrival. The Marvel show stars Jon Bernthal as its title character, aka Frank Castle, an ex-military man who turns his trigger finger to vengeance in the wake of his wife’s murder. Also debuting on Nov. 17 is the final season of A&E-to-Netflix Western Longmire, followed on Nov. 22 by another Western in Steven Soderbergh’s limited series Godless. Glitch and Frontier will return for second seasons, while new Netflix originals She’s Gotta Have It, Trailer Park Boys: Out of the Park and The Many Faces of Ito will make their first appearances.

Where original films are concerned, Netflix is trotting out an awards-season favorite in Dee Rees’ Mudbound, one of our top films from Sundance 2017. The post-World War II drama stars Garrett Hedlund and Jason Clarke as two veterans who return home to rural Mississippi and are forced to reckon with racial tensions and the harsh realities of post-war life, with Carey Mulligan, Jonathan Banks, Jason Mitchell and Mary J. Blige rounding out the acclaimed film’s cast. “This somber, despairing film sees the world plainly: War veterans aren’t given the care they need when they return, bigotry runs rampant, and good people are outnumbered by the small-minded,” wrote Tim Grierson in his Sundance assessment of Mudbound, which is due out on Nov. 17. Available to stream on that very same day is Netflix documentary Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton, made up of long-withheld footage of Jim Carrey shot behind the scenes of the 1999 Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon. The film’s first trailer recently offered us a glimpse of Carrey as crazed method actor: “Andy came back to make his movie,” he said. “What happened after was out of my control.” Other impending Netflix original films slated for November include The Killer and A Christmas Prince, while the streamer’s new comedy offerings include stand-up specials from DeRay Davis and Brian Regan, out on Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, respectively.

As for non-Netflix films, streamers can look forward to a pair of Will Smith hits in Men in Black and The Pursuit of Happyness, the classic Kevin Costner-starring baseball flick Field of Dreams (“If you build it, he will come”), Stephen Daldry’s Oscar-winning drama The Reader, horror-comedy institution Scary Movie, Tommy Lee Jones-directed period drama The Homesman and Alec Baldwin’s great shame, The Boss Baby. In exchange for these gifts (and that last curse), Netflix shalt taketh away Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, the Wachowskis’ The Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta, fat-camp comedy Heavyweights and all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother.
