U2 Releasing "The Blackout" Single via Jack White's Third Man Records

Over the summer, U2 unveiled via Facebook livestream a video of their performance of “The Blackout” during their Joshua Tree Tour. The song was the first digital release from their forthcoming record Songs of Experience, and now it’s set to be the first physical release, as well. The band is releasing the single as a 12” via Jack White’s Third Man Records, in conjunction with the band’s label Island Records, for Record Store Day’s Black Friday. The 12” features the original album version backed with an exclusive remix by the band’s longtime collaborator, Jacknife Lee.

U2 are giving their fans a reason to brave the Black Friday crowds, but said fans will need to act quickly. With a single pressing of “The Blackout” made at Third Man Pressing, the label’s vinyl production facility in Detroit, the single will have limited availability: Black vinyl editions will be up for grabs at all participating Record Store Day shops, and 750 colored vinyl editions will be sold exclusively at Third Man Records in Nashville and Detroit, along with a couple of to-be-announced stores in the U.K.

The vinyl will be available exclusively on Nov. 24. Preview the packaging and watch a U2 performance from the Paste Cloud below, and revisit the live performance video for “The Blackout” here.
