Lana Del Rey Retires “Cola” From Her Live Performances in Light of Harvey Weinstein Accusations

When Lana Del Rey hits the road in support of her latest album Lust for Life, she’ll be playing notable cuts from the album and her previous works, but one song fans won’t be hearing is “Cola,” from her 2012 Paradise EP. In an interview with MTV News, the singer was asked about whether the song was about Harvey Weinstein.

“When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein/Harry Winston-type of character in mind,” she replied. “I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual, like a Citizen Kane or something. I’m not really sure. I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now. I support the women who have come forward and think they’re really brave for doing that.”

Given the multitudes of sexual harassment and abuse allegations coming to light, Del Rey said of performing the song, “Obviously I don’t feel comfortable with it now.” Earlier in the interview, she made it clear that it’s important to her to have good intentions and personal actions, and to be “a good citizen of society,” so it’s no surprise that she’s choosing to retire the song from her setlist out of respect for those affected.
