Inspired by traditional American songwriters and classic country, Hayes Peebles puts a New York twist on a more rural style of music. With his rich baritone and plaintive lyrics, Peebles evokes a kind of outerborough Steve Earle, with a little more sway and a little less grit in his honky tonk. In February, Peebles released a four-song EP, Ghosts, which was produced in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. His new alt-folk single, “Airways,” was mastered in Jersey City, N.J., its big ringing guitars and falsetto singalong chorus echoing all the way back to Brooklyn.
