Carlos Arzate impresses with his new single "Broken Glass," which entices from start to finish. The musician and songwriter pens a politically and socially conscious song that echoes current events such as Michael Brown and Sandra Bland. Blending elements of Soul, R&B and a dash of Rock n' Roll, his brilliant sound will leave quite an impression on your ears.
Carlos Arzate says of the piece:
""Broken Glass" is a throwback to socially conscious soul music ie; Marvin Gayes "What's Going On". Inspired by the deaths of Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Walter Scott, Tamir Rice & Sandra Bland) it is a direct rebuttal to the media's depiction of protesters of police killings as violent. Arzate draws from his own experiences growing up poor and weary of the authorities to try and paint the picture of a portion of society that feels marginalized when it comes to equal protection under the law. Featuring giant horn arrangements reminiscent of Tower of Power and poetry from Tere Fowler-Chapman & Logan Phillips, the track attempts to capture the grit of the protest while addressing the larger idea of injustice. Produced by Ryan Alfred (Sweet Ghosts, Calexico
) and mixed by Gabriel Sullivan (XIXA) in Tucson AZ."
Taking from the record "Camaleon," the Tuscon Native branches outside of the local scene one note at a time. Referring to his sound as "Sonoran Soul," we hear inspirations of classic artists such as Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. Arzate's musical dynamic is a breath of fresh air as it takes you on a musical journey all of its own. Working with and sharing the stage with the likes of artists such as Gabriel Sullivan (XIXA), Brian Lopez (XIXA) and Ryan Alfred (Calexico) to anme a few, Arzate proudly takes center stage for a single and release you will not soon forget. Expect great things from Carlos Arzate in 2018...we're ready and waiting.
