After winning Season 7 of NBC’s “The Voice” in 2014, Dallas native Craig Wayne Boyd took his time making his debut album Top Shelf, which came out in October. Together with producer Will Edwards, he sorted through thousands of demos before compiling the 13 unique tracks to put his name on. Though American got to know him just a few years ago, Boyd moved to Nashville back in 2004, looking for a career in country music. He released two full lengths—2008’s Craig Boyd and 2013’s I Ain’t No Quitter—before finding his way to The Voice and a second musical chapter.
He released just one single with Dot records, “My Baby’s Got A Smile on Her Face”, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs. After a split with Dot, his second single, “I’m Still Here,” was released to iTunes under his own imprint, Long Haul Records.
“This album has been a labor of love,” he says. “We started the album shortly after coming off of ‘The Voice,’ but did not find a home for it until earlier this year. A lot of life has been lived at that point, so I wanted to go back in the studio and record a few more so that the album reflected where I am in life right now. I feel that this album is now reflective of my life and the happiness that I have found in it.”
