There’s now a show called Bartlett! And no, it’s not about former Major League Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti.
The six episode streaming comedy, which debuted today on Vimeo and Amazon Video, is about a high-powered ad exec who wants to quit his job and become a pro musician. Its ensemble includes Utkarsh Ambudkar (from White Famous and The Mindy Project), Anthony Veneziale, Chrissy Mazzeo, Don Reed, Eirinie Carson, and a guy you might have heard of named Lin-Manuel Miranda. He’s the guy in that photo above. The one who did Hamilton. The hip-hop musical. That guy.
If you want a short glimpse of what’s happening with this Bartlett show, here’s a brief clip featuring Miranda as a musical Jesus accompanying Veneziale on a song called “The Great Belief” that’s an ad pitch for a computer company that isn’t Apple but is also, uh, basically Apple. (If you’re wondering, the name “Bartlett” comes from the pear, not any of the characters in this show.) Miranda kind of beat boxes in this clip. He then delivers a dramatic speech. The actress playing Mary totally goes for it in a way that’s kind of a little distracting. Check it out!
Bartlett can be seen on Vimeo and Amazon Video.
