With Tuesday’s Oscar nomination announcements, Jordan Peele made his mark on film history.
Peele’s critically acclaimed debut film Get Out received four nominations, including a Best Actor nomination for breakout star Daniel Kaluuya. But it was Peele’s nominations that caught everyone’s attention. Variety was the first to make the announcement, tweeting:
Jordan Peele becomes only the third person to receive best picture, director, and writing #OscarNoms for his first feature film as a director.
With nominations for Best Picture, Director and Original Screenplay, Peele joins an elite group of directors to receive those honors for their debut films, including Warren Beatty with Heaven Can Wait and James L. Brooks with Terms of Endearment. Peele is also the first-ever black director to receive these nominations for his debut film.
Hopefully, these nominations are just the beginning of an illustrious directing career for Peele.
