New on Netflix: All the Movies and TV Coming in February

Love is in the air come February, and our relationship with our televisions and couches grows deeper and richer by the day. Each new month is another opportunity to curl up and stream 2018 away—in order to help you accomplish that, your friends at Paste are proud to present all the film and television worth falling for that’s coming to Netflix next month.

Netflix’s February feature film crop is looking good … fellas. Yes, Martin Scorsese’s classic 1990 mob drama Goodfellas will soon stream—the Academy Award-winning film, for those of you who have not lived, tells “the true story of Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), a half-Irish, half-Sicilian Brooklyn kid who is adopted by neighborhood gangsters at an early age and climbs the ranks of a Mafia family,” per Warner Bros. Goodfellas debuts on Netflix on Feb. 1, as do both volumes of Quentin Tarantino’s martial arts-instilled revenge saga Kill Bill, heist trilogy Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen, Kathryn Bigelow’s Iraq war thriller The Hurt Locker (which we recently named one of the best war movies of all time), and wildly underrated, John C. Reilly-starring musical comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, among others. Following in the footsteps of those films, Netflix original On Body and Soul streams starting on Feb. 2. The Hungarian romantic drama from writer-director Ildikó Enyedi was nominated for an Oscar this morning in the category of best foreign-language film. A movie with slightly less critical acclaim comes to Netflix on Feb. 8: The Emoji Movie, which Andy Crump called “a big, dumb, dishonestly corporate pox on all strains of culture, whether popular or technological” in his review for Paste. For a time, The Emoji Movie held the dubious distinction of a zero percent Rotten Tomatoes score, so we hope that, should you choose to watch it, you’re doing so purely out of morbid curiosity. Returning to movies that are so good, they’re good, Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning 2012 historical drama Lincoln hits Netflix on Feb. 21, while Moon filmmaker Duncan Jones’ much-anticipated Mute, which has been described as a spiritual sequel to the 2009 Moon, makes its debut on the streaming service on Feb. 23. Jones revealed earlier this month that Mute would be making its debut in February, but today’s official confirmation is more than welcome.

Moving now to Netflix’s TV offerings out next month, the most prominent title is certainly the streamer’s own Altered Carbon. The big-budget sci-fi series, adapted from Richard K. Morgan’s classic cyberpunk-noir novel and starring Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad, Robocop) as reanimated super-soldier Takeshi Kovacs, makes its season one debut on Feb. 2. We recently highlighted Altered Carbon among the most exciting new TV shows of 2018. You can watch a trailer for the much-anticipated series here. Debuting on Feb. 16 is another buzzy Netflix original series: the waggishly titled ‘90s coming-of-age comedy Everything Sucks! The show, which you can watch an Everclear-soundtracked trailer for below, stars Peyton Kennedy and Jahi Winston as two friends at a Boring, Ore. high school who join forces to make a movie.

And speaking of ‘90s nostalgia, The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale makes its debut next month as well, debuting its first episode on Netflix on Feb. 18. The recently revealed, half-hour, weekly topical series finds McHale returning to his The Soup roots, providing “a fast and funny distillation of everything people are talking about that week” while showcasing “celebrity guests, comedy sketches, and insane video clips from the worldwide realms of TV, sports, politics, celebrity culture, and every corner of the internet.” Other Netflix originals debuting their first seasons in February include Coach Snoop, Luna Petunia: Return to Amazia, Queer Eye, Re:Mind, First Team: Juventus, The Frankenstein Chronicles, Seven Seconds and Ugly Delicious. And on Feb. 9, Netflix will add a new episode of its prestige talk series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, featuring a plucky, young, up-and-coming actor named George Clooney. So in other words, “Peak TV” just continues to peak.

Last but not least, be mindful of titles leaving Netflix in February. Those include a pair of indispensable Tim Burton-adjacent films in Corpse Bride (which Burton actually directed) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (which he didn’t), Oscar-winning World War II drama The Longest Day and a couple of seasons of Top Gear. Leaving later in the month are two Hannibal Buress comedy specials, Animal Furnace and Live from Chicago (Feb. 5), Family Guy seasons one through eight (Feb. 14), Aziz Ansari comedy special Dangerously Delicious (Feb. 20) and Alex Gibney’s Oscar-nominated 2005 documentary Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.
