Activision Blizzard Taps Sicario 2 Director to Head Call of Duty Film

Activision Blizzard’s film division, Activision Blizzard Studios, is currently developing a film adaptation of it’s cornerstone gaming franchise Call of Duty, and now has a director to helm it.

Variety reports that Sicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima is currently in negotiations with the videogame giant to direct the first film based off of the long-running franchise. No details about the film have been released, but Activision Blizzard Studios presidents Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk expressed a desire to build a universe that could draw from the many different eras and incarnations the game has inhabited in its tenure. There’s even some interest in developing an entire cinematic universe around the franchise, which could draw on the different settings, technology and characters within the series.

The untitled project will work from a script written by Kieran Fitzgerald (Snowden, Wormwood) and is being produced by Sher, van Dyk and Activision Blizzard head Bobby Kotick.
