Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere Universe Comes Alive With New VR Experience this March

Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series has stood tall as an impeccably revered collection of fantasy novels for the better part of the last decade. Selling 15 million copies and landing the top spot on the New York Times Bestseller List, the carefully crafted Cosmere universe has garnered award after award while immersing fans in the events of the planet Roshar.

Now, fans of the series will be able to take the next step in that immersion. Arcturus, in partnership with DMG Entertainment, has crafted a VR experience that will place players within the realm they’ve read about over the course of the series. In The Way of Kings, Escape the Shattered Plains, players will enter Roshar and experience an interactive narrative penned by celebrated videogame writer Joshua Rubin.

“For the first time ever, audiences will be able to experience the thrills and see the magic of the fantasy universe Brandon Sanderson created before their very eyes,” stated Arcturus COO Ewan Johnson.

Rubin’s past work with numerous Telltale episodic narrative series, as well as his work as lead writer on Destiny and Assassin’s Creed II, shows a proven track record that adds promise to the narrative.

Fans will step into the shoes of Kaladin, a young man coming to terms with his magical powers, as he traverses the Shattered Plains, battling otherworldly beasts and Parshendi warriors along the way.

“I am beyond excited to finally be able to present this VR experience of The Way of Kings after many months of long, hard work,” said Sanderson, adding, “It’s the first time my fans will be able to experience a thrilling adventure in Roshar and see what it’s like to be in the Shattered Plains.”

The Way of Kings, Escape the Shattered Plains will release for HTC Vive on March 2, and will be available on Viveport and Steam for $10.99
