The story of famed inventor and electricity pioneer Nikola Tesla is getting the cinematic treatment once again with the new biopic Tesla, and, according to THR, Ethan Hawke has been tabbed to portray the legendary figure.
The film reunites Hawke with writer-director Michael Almereyda (Marjorie Prime). The two previously worked together on Hamlet and Cymbeline.
Tesla will travel through the life of the touted genius, focusing on the creation of the AC motor and the heated rivalry that he developed with fellow inventor Thomas Edison.
Previous actors to take on the role of Tesla include Nicholas Hoult in 2017’s The Current War and David Bowie in Christopher Nolan’s 2006 film The Prestige.
The film will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin this week and production is scheduled to begin this spring in upstate New York.
