King Tuff Announces New Album The Other, Shares New Track "Psycho Star"

Former Ty Segall collaborator and Happy Birthday member King Tuff has revealed the details for his forthcoming album, The Other, out on April 13 via Sub Pop Records.

Last week, King Tuff, aka Kyle Thomas, released “The Other,” his first new track since his fourth studio album, 2014’s Black Moon Spell.

He also revealed the album’s official first single, “Psycho Star,” which ditches the delicate, picturesque folk of “The Other” for a soulful, melodic new sound with funky ‘80s guitars and keyboards and Thomas’ smooth, cosmic lead vocals singing of existential contemplation, “The universe is probably an illusion, but isn’t it so beautifully bizarre / That here we are.”

The Other was self-produced, mixed by Shawn Everett (War On Drugs, Alabama Shakes) and features contributions from Segall (drums), Jenny Lewis (vocals), Greta Morgan (vocals) and Mikal Cronin (saxophone).

Thomas says of the diverse sound of the new record:

I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone. King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything.

In conjunction with his new album, King Tuff has also announced a North American tour this summer with support from recent Jagjaguwar signee Cut Worms.
