Fans of Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile are about to have themselves one happy Friday. Friends of Wonder, a half-hour documentary on the dynamic indie-rock duo, is out now, courtesy of WeTransfer and Matador Records, and you can watch it down below.
Filmed at the Loew’s Jersey Theatre, Friends of Wonder covers Barnett and Vile’s friendship, as well as their creative collaboration, which recently produced the wonderful Lotta Sea Lice, one of Paste’s top albums of 2017, along with a subsequent tour. That narrative is interspersed with concert footage from Barnett and Vile’s 2017 performance at the aforementioned venue.
Friends of Wonder was directed and edited by duo and couple Kurt Vincent and Irene Chin. “While editing the movie Irene and I would constantly look at each other and smile,” said Vincent in a statement. “We were editing scenes with two of our favorite musicians performing in a magical setting. We dreamed up this crazy movie about a mysterious movie palace and this concert—and the film turned out exactly how we imagined it. That’s not always how it works out.”
Watch Friends of Wonder below, plus a 2015 Barnett performance from the Paste Cloud. You can revisit our October interview with the duo here and stream their record here.
