Dance-music mastermind JD Walsh, better known by his electronic project Shy Layers, released on Wednesday the first single off his forthcoming album Midnight Marker. The track and subsequent music video, titled “Gateway,” is the first preview to come from the Atlanta-based musician’s sophomore album.
“Gateway” is a beautifully experimental track, featuring brightly-layered guitars over Walsh’s own ambient vocals, and synthesized sounds reminiscent of ‘80s-era synthwave music. The musician’s self-directed music video is the perfect accompaniment to the single’s laid-back sound.
In the music video, the musician shows himself to be a truly multimedia artist as he visually captivates us with infra-red filters, digitalized graphics and green-screen effects.
Midnight Marker is set to release on May 25 via Beats in Space. You can preorder the album, however, through the artist’s Bandcamp page, right here.
Shy Layers came into the scene with his self-titled album in 2016. Since then, the musician has started to gain recognition with his relaxed, unconventional sound. Walsh also recently appeared as a guest on Adult Swim’s Bloodfeast.
