Canadian musical icon, Neil Young, stars in the newly released Netflix western, Paradox. Written and directed by Daryl Hannah, Paradox features Young as a renegade cowboy (addressed in the movie trailer as “the Man in the Black Hat”), alongside a wide cast of of musicians and actors that includes Lukas Nelson, Micah Nelson, Willie Nelson, Corey McCormick, Anthony LoGerfo, Tato Melgar, Charris Ford and Dulcie Clarkson Ford.
As Hannah’s directorial debut, Paradox, tells the story of a group of cowboys wandering through the mountains of a pulp-Western landscape. Shot in the Rockies in just over four days, Hannah shifted between a Super 8 camera and her own personal cell-phone to record a film with dreamy, home movie-like quality.
Paradox promises to be “a fantasy, a loud poem and a free-spirited tale of music and love.” After being previewed at this year’s SXSW, the movie is now available to stream on Netflix.
The Paradox soundtrack, released alongside the film, features music written and performed by Young and his backing band, Promise Of The Real. The soundtrack features brand new songs written for the film, as well as reimagined version of Young’s classic hits. The soundtrack also covers songs by Lead Belly, The Turtles and Willie Nelson, with the “Ambassador to Weedville” himself performing a spoken word poem on the album. Nelson’s two sons, Lukas and Micah also contribute to the soundtrack as members of the backing band, Promise Of The Real.
