Paul Simon Has Announced the Final Leg of His Farewell Tour

The great Paul Simon, who recently announced his impending retirement from touring, has revealed the final leg of his final tour, Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour. The legendary singer-songwriter has added nearly a dozen September shows along the East Coast, culminating with four shows in the New York City area that Simon calls home.

Those NYC-area stops, the last official touring performances Simon will ever deliver, include a hometown show in in Newark, N.J. on Sept. 15, two nights at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 20-21 and a final NYC show at a soon-to-be-announced venue. When word first got out that Simon had announced a “farewell show,” we were puzzled to find that it was in the U.K., so today’s reveal that he will end his touring career on his home turf makes far more sense.

Simon and his band head out for their last ride in May, beginning with a show in Vancouver on the 16th. A press release promises that Simon and company will “[bring] to the stage a stunning, career-spanning repertoire of timeless hits and classic songs.”

As Simon noted in his retirement announcement, he’s not calling it quits on performing entirely. “After this coming tour, I anticipate doing the occasional performance in a (hopefully) acoustically pristine hall, and to donate those earnings to various philanthropic organizations, particularly those whose objective is to save the planet, ecologically,” he wrote.

Tickets for the third and final leg of Simon’s farewell tour go on sale to the public this Friday, March 16 at 9 a.m. EST, with the exception of his shows in New Orleans (on sale on Saturday, March 17 at 10 a.m. local time) and Washington, D.C. (on sale on Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m. local time). You’ll find more ticketing info on Simon’s website.
