Post Animal Release Psych-Rock Stomper, "Gelatin Mode"

Chicago psych rockers Post Animal have released “Gelatin Mode,” from their forthcoming debut album, When I Think Of You In A Castle, out on April 20 via Polyvinyl.

The band unveiled their lead single “Ralphie” last month and on Wednesday, they dropped a new track and self-directed video for their psych-rock stomper “Gelatin Mode.” The band told Noisey of the song’s crazy new video:

For this video, we wanted to test our physical limits, gunning for stunts no one has ever attempted before. We had no guidelines, no restrictions, just our minds, our bodies, and a camera. We have done away with ourselves. The nights grow short and the days linger. Prepare to abandon reason and have some fun as you venture into … gelatin mode.

“Gelatin Mode” shows off slick lead vocals amid gritty, earth-shattering psych rock, taking musical cues from experimental-psych giants King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and vocal cues from Tame Impala frontman and modern psych-pop king Kevin Parker. Per a press release, their album is “the product of six friends exploring their affinity for slick riffs, pop hooks, and psychedelic flourishes.”

The band has previously toured with the likes of Twin Peaks, Wavves and White Reaper, and they will embark on a U.S. headlining tour in support of their new album. After making a recent appearance at SXSW Festival, they are also set to play other big U.S. festivals this year like Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees and Lollapalooza.

Below, watch the new video for “Gelatin Mode” and check out Paste Cloud video of the band performing “The Castle,” accompanied by former touring member Joe Keery, of Stranger Things fame.
