Soccer Mommy Dreams of Being "Cool" in '90s-Inspired New Video

Even on the heels of her acclaimed debut Clean, Soccer Mommy, aka 20-year-old Nashville native Sophie Allison, still dreams of being cool. Exhibit A: her ‘90s teen movie-inspired video for standout Clean cut “Cool,” in which a solitary Allison strums her guitar in a field before getting lost in her funny and colorful fantasies about what it’s like to be “that cool.”

The Ambar Navarro-directed video also features animation from Art Baby Girl, adding a distinctly stylized and nostalgic sheen to the proceedings. It’s a perfect fit with the song’s yearning lyrics and effortless instrumentation—as Madison Desler wrote in her review of Clean for Paste, “‘Cool’ grooves along with all the enviable nonchalance of the divinely unbothered girl that’s the song’s subject.”

Soccer Mommy began her world tour this month at SXSW, where our own Adrian Spinelli pointed out, “as soon as the fest comes to a close, she’s hopping on a nationwide tour of smaller venues and a run of shows opening for Liz Phair. You’ve been notified.” That tour also includes dates with Speedy Ortiz, Madeline Kenney and Long Beard—find ticket info here.

Watch Soccer Mommy’s “Cool” video and February Paste Studio session below. Further down, you’ll find her tour dates.
