Twin Shadow Shares Angelic Synth-Pop Track, "Brace"

Twin Shadow  has released a new track, “Brace,” from his forthcoming album Caer, out on April 27 via Warner Bros Records and Reprise.

Caer will be Twin Shadow’s (aka George Lewis Jr.) fourth studio album and his first since 2015’s Eclipse. “Brace” follows the release of earlier singles “Little Woman” and “Saturdays,” the latter of which features the Haim sisters.

The song, which features Rainsford, rests on a looped angelic chorus while Lewis’s smooth lead vocals, twinkling keyboards and electronic drums add to the romantic, yearning synth-pop. Along with a Tom Petty reference (“Tom Petty waiting on a free fall”), the song centers around the idea of “falling” or some kind of uncertainty, and this theme was a crucial inspiration for the album as a whole.

Lewis says of his new album title, Caer, which translates to “fall” in Spanish:

Sometimes I feel like I have to take a fall to essentially get to the next phase of my life. It’s happened over and over. I’ve been through so many musical phases and through so many relationships with friends and lovers. I always feel like I’m standing on the edge of a cliff, looking down and thinking, ‘This is the only way forward: onto the next thing.’ It’s sort of destructive, but I guess I thrive on rebirth.

Twin Shadow will play a run of tour dates in the spring that include shows alongside Beck and alt-J. Watch the video for “Brace” and check out Twin Shadow’s upcoming dates below, along with the band’s 2011 Daytrotter Session. You can preorder Caer here.
