Alex Cameron Unveils NSFW "Studmuffin96" Video, Extends North American Tour

Australian singer-songwriter Alex Cameron has revealed a new video, “Studmuffin96,” taken from his 2017 album Forced Witness.

For those who haven’t come across this high-concept pop/rock singer, Cameron released his debut album Jumping The Shark back in 2013 for free on his website and slowly but surely, he began to gain a cult following. Cameron eventually caught the attention of Secretly Canadian, who signed him and reissued his first record.

His critically acclaimed second album, Forced Witness, featured a duet with Angel Olsen and contributions from The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, and his saxophonist sidekick and so-called “business partner” Roy Molloy. Cameron soon became good friends with Flowers, which led him to co-write several tracks on The Killers’ latest album, Wonderful Wonderful.

“Studmuffin96” is a humorous, sensual bit of pop and soft rock that chronicles a fling between a young woman and older man. The video follows a NSFW romance between a woman with a tall blonde beehive and a sketchy older man that is rekindled at—of all places—a laundromat. The video stars Jemima Kirke (from HBO’s Girls) as the woman and Cameron as the older man.

The video was also directed by Kirke, who describes it as “a coming of age story about the bleakness of a fantasy realized. A young woman is reunited with a man from her past, and an attempt at romance ensues. But regardless of their efforts, their only common ground is a laundromat and a motel room.”

After touring extensively with The Killers, Kevin Morby, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Olsen and others, and a several sold-out American headlining dates, Cameron is extending his North American Forced Witness tour, which will include stops in Cleveland, Toronto, Atlanta, Philadelphia and other cities. Cameron’s six-piece band, alongside Molloy, is currently on the road in Europe before they head to Australia for some arena shows supporting The Killers. This summer, they will also play some North American festivals, including Pitchfork Music Festival and Osheaga.
