Lake Street Dive Shares New Acoustic Ballad and Video, "I Can Change"

Boston soul/jazz quartet Lake Street Dive have shared a video for their new song, “I Can Change,” from their forthcoming LP Free Yourself Up, out on May 4 via Nonesuch Records.

Free Yourself Up is the band’s eighth studio album and their second on Nonesuch Records. It’s their first album since 2016’s Side Pony, which Paste included on our list of 50 best albums of 2016. In our full review, Jim Vorel wrote that “Side Pony provides both an encore and procedural evolution of the songs that were presented on 2014’s Bad Self Portraits.”

The video for “I Can Change,” made by filmmaker Claire Marie Vogel, shows singer Rachael Price standing motionless as sings the minimal acoustic ballad and undergoes numerous wardrobe changes. The wardrobe changes echo the physical and metaphorical changes referenced in the song’s lyrics.

The band previously released a live video of their new lead single, “Good Kisser,” which was filmed at Goosehead Palace Studios in Nashville, where the band produced their album. Stand-up bassist Bridget Kearney says of the new album, “This album is based in the realities in our time, which have inevitably become part of everyone’s daily life. It’s something you think about and obsess over—and write songs about. Free Yourself Up is about empowering yourself, emboldening yourself, no matter what’s going wrong.”

The band has also announced more North American tour dates, which begin with an intimate show at The Sinclair in Lake Street Dive’s Boston hometown on the album’s release day and continues with over 40 dates. Newly added cities include Cleveland, Portland, Atlanta, Austin, Memphis, Chicago and more. Unless noted below as a “non-bundle date,” every online ticket purchase for Lake Street Dive’s headline shows will include a CD copy of their new album.
