will be gracing the big screen again, as Sony Pictures is plotting a remake of the 1985 thriller Jagged Edge as a starring vehicle for the Oscar winner, as reported by Deadline.
The original film, starring Oscar winner Jeff Bridges and Oscar nominee Glenn Close, followed the torrid love affair between lawyer Terry Barnes (Close) and her newspaper publisher client Jack (Bridges) after he is accused of murdering his heiress wife. But something about Jack and his suspicious nature bothers Terry, especially after she begins receiving anonymous typewritten letters. The 1985 film was acclaimed for its performances, with actor Robert Loggia scoring an Oscar nomination, and grossed over $40 million at the box office.
The project is part of Steven Bersch’s takeover of Sony’s genre arm, Screen Gems. The remake is a top priority of the studio, despite having no writer attached to the project. Matti Leshem of Weimaraner Republic Pictures and Doug Belgard of 2.0 Entertainment will executive produce the film, with Sony Pictures’ Scott Strauss overseeing it.
With this announcement, Berry’s career seems to be on an upswing after a few-year-long lull in her filmography. Last year, the Oscar winner appeared in Kingsman: Golden Circle and Kidnap. She will be seen next in the drama Kings, focusing on the days before the Rodney King verdict.
Hopefully, this film will bring Berry back to the prestige that she earned after her Oscar win more than a decade ago.
