Watch Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats Perform "You Worry Me" on The Late Show

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats returned to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night to perform “You Worry Me,” off the band’s latest album Tearing at the Seams. The live version of “You Worry Me” adds another dimension to the single, missed when just streaming the audio.

Smoother studio recordings always have their merits, but live versions allow for variation and, at times, even flaws. This live performance of “You Worry Me” allows listeners to hear more distinctly the characteristic scratchiness in Rateliff’s voice. Watching the band members bounce along with the pulse of the song emphasizes its hopping rhythm. Another notable feature is that although there are subtle sonic differences, like in Rateliff’s vocals, because the band is large, the song doesn’t have to be stripped back in the way that some songs must be when artists perform live a song that was recorded with many instruments.

While the music video for “You Worry Me” was released back in March, the band more recently released a video for “Hey Mama.” The heartwarming video was filmed in Hermann, Mo.—the hometown of Rateliff and bassist Joseph Pope III—and features the mothers of Rateliff and Pope, the band’s extended Denver family and family home videos.

The band is currently on U.S. tour and has show dates scheduled until the beginning of November. Paste recently had the pleasure of seeing Rateliff & The Night Sweats perform at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees.
