Foster the People Add Intimate Shows to Summer Tour, Appear in The Knocks' Referential "Ride or Die" Video

While Foster the People are on tour with Paramore this summer, hitting amphitheaters across the continent, the Los Angeles-originated indie-pop/rock group is taking inspiration from the birthplace of punk on the opposite coast in its freshly announced tour dates. In select cities the band was already set to play, Foster the People are going back to their roots, like they did in the rawness of their latest record Sacred Hearts Club, with the addition of smaller shows: “Put your phones away and pretend it’s CBGB’s, New York circa 1981,” the band says.

The new shows are free, but the small venues have limited capacity, so it’s best to arrive early, as they are “first come first serve.”

Foster the People  also joined in on The Knocks’ track “Ride or Die,” with Mark Foster lending his vocals to the song and his body to the music video, which came out Monday. The “Ride or Die” video nods to film classics like Rocky, with Foster starring as a gruff trainer, and Men in Black. Electronic duo The Knocks traded in their musicianship in the video to portray iconic movie duos, highlighting the friendship and nostalgia the song centers on. “Our shared love for nostalgic movies and classic imagery made this video a no brainer,” The Knocks tweeted.

Foster holds a similar sentiment on the video:

I’d been a fan of The Knocks for a while so when they asked if I wanted to do a song, I jumped to it … everything came full circle with Kenny [Laubbacher] coming up with this music video concept that paid homage to famous duos from the past. I got to play the weird third wheel guy in each sequence, so naturally I said yes.
